본 해제집은 국립문화재연구소가 주관하는 민속문헌 기초자료 조사의 일환으로 근대 서양에서 발행된 한국관련 서양고서들을 대상으로 우리나라 민속관련 자료들을 분류, 정리해 작성한 것이다.이 해제집은 지금까지 내부적 시각만으로 한국의 민속을 살펴보는 편향적인 측면을 극복해 세계 속에서 우리의 민속문화가 어떻게 이해되어 왔는지를 살펴 볼 수 있는 중요한 자료집이라고 할 수 있다. - 〈Ⅰ. 연구의 개요〉 중에서 -
